Thai Stir Fried Shrimp with Chili Paste

Koong Pad Prik Paow, Shrimp Fried in Chili Paste

Known as Pad Prik Paow Koong (ผัดพริกเผากุ้ง), translates into ‘Shrimp Fried in Chili Paste’ the following ingredients are used to whip up this dish.

Main Ingredients

  • 400 grams of peeled and deveined shrimp
  • 1/2 bulb of sliced white onion
  • 3 stalks green onion chopped
  • 4-5 pcs minced garlic
  • 2-3 pcs mild red chili peppers

Seasoning Ingredients

  • 3 Tbsp chili paste in soybean oil
  • 1 Tbsp fish sauce
  • 1 tsp granulated sugar

Creating your Dish

  1. Heat oil in a wok on medium heat
  2. Add minced garlic with chopped white onions and chili paste while stirring continuously (white onions should begin to turn translucent)
  3. Once the aromas begin to release, add shrimp and stir until paste is incorporated into the shrimp (a bit of water may be added to better mix in the paste)
  4. Stir in the seasoning of fish sauce and granulated sugar
  5. Turn of heat and add stalks of green onion and stir (the remaining heat should cook the onion stalk by not burn it
  6. Plate the dish and enjoy with jasmine rice
