As you step through the doors, a beautiful aroma of bacon hits your sensory receptors within your nostrils. You are drawn to the sound of steak sizzling on the grill and regard it as music to your ears. I’ve had my fair share of breakfast places, however, this cozy little restaurant tops the list as it offers incredible food at affordable prices. The best part of this restaurant is that it opens 24 hours/ 7 days a week. Treat yourself to an all day breakfast at ‘The Original Hotcake House‘.
My dad had stumbled upon this shop by accident as he roamed the streets of Portland looking for a place to have his coffee and eat his hotcakes. Luckily he found this place which definitely satisfies my cravings for a nice steak and eggs.
Wooden tables are arranged across a tiled floor seating approximately 60-100 people. There is a jukebox in the corner giving it that vintage feel to it. Customers can insert money and play the tunes that fits their preferences.
The order process requires the customer to place their orders at the counter. Should you order coffee and water, pitchers filled with hot coffee and a tab for drinking water are self-served. A number related to your order is given to you as you take your seat to reference the server to bring your order to the table.
Verdict on Food
The chefs and owners at this restaurant definitely know what their doing. The portion plated on the dish are monumental in size. This could definitely keep me full for many hours on end or feed a family of 4 in an Asian country.
I had ordered the Ribeye Steak thinking it would only be the steak itself. To my surprise it comes with 2 eggs, toast (choice of white, wheat, or sourdough), and freshly made hash brown. The deliciously cooked ribeye steak was a thick cut of meat that melted in your mouth. I couldn’t eat all of the hash browns unfortunately even though it was so scrumptious.
Price for this steak meal had cost only USD 14.95. I’d say it’s a pretty good deal for a thick tomahawk size of a steak.
The hotcakes are amazingly fluffy and and soft and made fresh after you have ordered them. Hotcakes come with eggs an egg and strips of crispy bacon. A small cup of maple syrup is provided to drizzle all over the pancakes.
Prices for this dish was USD 9.95.
